LAGOS – Afrobeats superstar Davido has been inducted as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammy Awards. The announcement was made on Tuesday, September 23, with the artist’s inclusion marking a significant milestone for his career and for African music on the global stage.
As a voting member, Davido will now have the power to cast votes in both the nomination and final ballot stages of the Grammy Awards process for the 2026 ceremony. The induction is part of a wider push by the Recording Academy to diversify its membership and increase international representation.
In a video shared by the Recording Academy, Davido described the honor as a “game changer.” He emphasized the importance of having a voice in what is recognized by the prestigious awards, stating, “I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season. I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting.”
This achievement follows Davido’s recent string of Grammy nominations. He earned three nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards and a fourth in 2025 for his collaboration with Chris Brown and Lojay on the song “Sensational.” His induction as a voting member solidifies his influence in the global music industry and ensures that the African music perspective is directly represented in the Grammy selection process.
