WARRI, DELTA STATE – Joseph Okotie has emerged as the newly elected President of the Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths Association (UIYA), following a keenly contested election held at the palace of the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, on Saturday, August 30.
Okotie, who polled the highest number of votes from accredited delegates, will now lead the foremost Itsekiri youth body in championing unity, cultural advancement, and youth empowerment across the Warri kingdom and beyond.
The election, conducted under the supervision of stakeholders and representatives of the traditional institution, was described as free, fair, and credible. It drew participation from youths across Itsekiri communities, signifying renewed commitment to fostering stronger representation and advocacy for the interests of the people.
Newly Constituted Executive Council Alongside Okotie’s victory, a new executive council was inaugurated to drive the association’s activities.

In his acceptance speech, Okotie expressed gratitude to the delegates and the Olu of Warri for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to work closely with his executive council to reposition the UIYA as a unifying force for all Itsekiri youths, stressing the importance of collaboration, cultural preservation, and socioeconomic advancement.
Observers noted that the election marked a significant milestone for the association, as it ushers in a fresh era of leadership expected to bring inclusivity and innovation in addressing the challenges facing Itsekiri youths.
