By Peter Onyekachukwu, Gombe

The Nigerian Army has commissioned a newly established Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre in Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State as part of renewed efforts to deepen civil-military cooperation and contribute to educational development.

The facility, undertaken under the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative, was facilitated by the Director General of the Land Forces Simulation Centre Nigeria, Major General Mohammed Bello Wabili.

According to the Army, the project aligns with its strategy of supporting social development and fostering peaceful relations with civilian populations through education, technology and infrastructure-driven interventions.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, described the centre as a testament to the military’s commitment to meaningful community impact.

He said the Army remains determined to complement government efforts through projects that improve lives and strengthen public trust.

The COAS, represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, commended Major General Wabili for initiating and delivering the project, urging residents to ensure the centre is maximally utilised and properly maintained.

He noted that CIMIC projects are designed to give back to Nigerians, who he described as critical partners in national stability and development. He also disclosed that the Army has implemented over 250 such intervention projects across the six geopolitical zones.

Earlier, the project facilitator, Maj.-Gen. Wabili, thanked the Army leadership for its commitment to bridging gaps between security agencies and citizens through sustainable community-based projects. He said the centre would serve as a hub for training, innovation and empowerment, especially for students and youth.

Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, represented by the Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Tourism, Nasiru Mohammed Aliyu, commended the gesture, describing it as a significant addition to efforts aimed at improving digital knowledge and economic opportunities in the state.

The newly commissioned facility is equipped with desktop computers, solar inverter backup system, projector, printer, laminating machine, central server and other digital learning tools intended to boost technological capacity and digital literacy in the community.
