The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday performed the official groundbreaking ceremony for the Cubana Millennium City in Asaba, asserting that the ambitious project signifies the state’s emergence as a premier investment destination in Nigeria.
The Governor, represented at the significant ceremony by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, emphasized that the massive private sector development represents a strong vote of confidence in the state’s economic vitality, its populace, and the stability of its environment.
Governor Oborevwori underscored the strategic economic value of the investment, highlighting that the Cubana Millennium City is poised to create “a thriving hub of commerce, hospitality, entertainment, and modern living.” This development, strategically located off the critical Benin–Onitsha Highway at Wichtech Junction, is expected to unlock substantial new value along that corridor.
“Today’s groundbreaking is more than the commencement of a physical project; it is a clear signal that Delta State is emerging as one of Nigeria’s most promising investment destinations,” the Governor stated. He assured stakeholders that the economic and social returns will cascade across the State, stimulating growth for small and medium enterprises, expanding local supply chains, and generating quality employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
Reiterating his administration’s core commitment, the Governor affirmed that Delta State must be the most accessible place to invest, build, and grow. This objective is being met by strengthening infrastructure, reinforcing security, dismantling bureaucratic bottlenecks, and actively supporting every genuine investor aligned with the state’s vision.
In his address, Chairman of the Cubana Group, Dr. Obinna Iyiegbu, expressed deep appreciation for Governor Oborevwori’s steadfast support, confirming that the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment provided the necessary confidence for the Group to “dream bigger and to act boldly.”
Dr. Iyiegbu articulated the project’s vision as the construction of a modern ecosystem where people can live, work, relax, and thrive seamlessly. He described the development as a “world-class community, a modern city within a city,” intended to redefine lifestyle, entertainment, and investment opportunities, thereby strategically connecting Nigeria’s South and East.
Local leaders, including the Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Council, Hon. Innocent Esewezie, acknowledged the project as a major advancement in infrastructure and socioeconomic progress, while the Ugoani of Okpanam, His Royal Majesty Dr. Michael Ogbolu, pledged unwavering community support for the project’s success.
