DELTA: A 35-year-old man, identified as Ismaila, was violently attacked by an angry mob today for allegedly stealing a keyboard from a church on Willie Street, Warri, Delta State.
The mob, infuriated by the theft, placed a motor tyre around the suspect’s neck and forced him to “dance” from Willie Street to Okumagba Avenue, near the Robson G. Shopping Plaza. They also inflicted severe head injuries on him and tried to set him on fire.
A mobile policeman arrived just in time to intervene, rescuing the suspect and taking him to the “B” Division police station.
The officer assured the crowd that Ismaila would be made to reveal the identities of his alleged accomplices.
Frustrated by the police’s intervention, the mob expressed regret for not acting faster. “We were too late in carrying out our plan,” one of the bystanders said.
