Senator Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi, former representative of Delta North Senatorial District, has died, prompting tributes from political leaders and constituents nationwide.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Delta State chapter confirmed on Friday, December 19, 2025, that Nwaoboshi passed away, describing his death as a significant loss to both Delta State and Nigeria’s political landscape.
Nwaoboshi, from Ibusa community in Oshimili North Local Government Area, had a decades-long career in public service and politics, leaving a lasting impact on governance and party administration.
He began his career in 1979 as an aide to the then Military Governor of Bendel State, Brigadier-General Samuel Ogbemudia, before earning law degrees including LL.B and LL.M.
Over the years, he held several key positions, including Political Adviser to former Delta State Governor James Ibori, Commissioner for Agriculture and Special Duties, and Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
Nwaoboshi also served as Chairman of the PDP in Delta State, where he oversaw party reforms, restored discipline, and supervised the construction of the party’s state secretariat.
He was elected Senator for Delta North in 2015, re-elected in 2019, and served until 2023, participating in various Senate committees, including the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.
The PDP described him as “a principled leader, loyal party man, and administrator par excellence,” highlighting his contributions to national and regional development.
Political colleagues and party officials said his death leaves a substantial gap in leadership and mentorship within the PDP and across Delta State politics.
Tributes have poured in from leaders and constituents who remembered him as a dedicated public servant whose influence shaped both his local community and the wider political arena.
The party urged Nigerians to pray for strength for his family and loved ones, while asking God to grant the late senator eternal rest.
Nwaoboshi’s death has drawn nationwide attention, with many reflecting on his enduring legacy in Nigerian politics.
