The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to the welfare of families of fallen soldiers, assuring that the sacrifices of personnel who gave their lives in defence of the nation will never be forgotten.

The assurance was given by the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army on Friday during a special Jumma’ah prayer session held at the 1 Division Central Mosque, Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna, as part of activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

Speaking at the event, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Abubakar Wase, described the occasion as a moment of deep reflection, gratitude, and renewed hope for the Armed Forces.

Represented by the Commander, 101 Equipment Support Engineer, Brigadier General Muhammad Lawal, the GOC said the Army remained resolute in supporting the families of fallen heroes, stressing that their sacrifices in safeguarding Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty would always be honoured.

He urged serving personnel to remain steadfast and hopeful, assuring them that their dedication and sacrifices were recognised and appreciated by the nation.

According to him, “The message of this day is unity, remembrance, and our enduring commitment to those who have served and those still serving.”

Also speaking, Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, paid glowing tribute to officers and men of the Armed Forces, particularly those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Abubakar Buba, the governor expressed sympathy with the Nigerian military and the families of fallen soldiers, while praying for the repose of their souls.

He also offered prayers for troops currently deployed across various operational theatres, asking Allah to grant them protection, resilience, and victory over forces threatening peace and security in the country.

“On behalf of the Kaduna State Government and the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, we extend our best wishes to the Armed Forces on this special day,” he said.

Earlier, the Acting Staff Officer Grade Three (SO3), Islamic Affairs, 1 Division, Lieutenant Abdulmunin Muhammad, who led the prayers, said the commemoration served as a reminder of the nation’s immense debt to fallen heroes.

He noted that remembering them through prayers and recognition of their sacrifices was both a moral and religious obligation, adding that the peace enjoyed in the country was built on their courage and selflessness.
