Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a donation of N100 million to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Singer Market, Kano, in a move aimed at cushioning their losses and supporting their recovery.

The governor announced the intervention on Thursday during a sympathy visit to the market, where many shops were destroyed by the inferno.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Governor Yusuf expressed concern over the magnitude of losses recorded by the traders and assured them that his administration would not abandon them at such a difficult time.

“I am deeply saddened by what happened here. The government will not abandon you in this difficult moment,” the governor was quoted as saying.

He explained that the N100 million relief package is intended to help the affected traders restart their businesses and regain their means of livelihood.

The governor was received at the market by the Chairman of Singer Market, Barrister Junaidu Muhammad Zakari; an elder of the market, Alhaji Sabi’u Bako; and the owner of the affected plaza, Alhaji Munzali Mazaf.

Beyond the relief support, Governor Yusuf directed the immediate expansion and rehabilitation of internal roads within Singer Market to improve access, ease movement and boost commercial activities.

He also approved the award of N3 billion for road expansion and rehabilitation projects on Bello Road, Ado Bayero Road, Kandoki, Yolawa and Kwangiri roads to address flooding and traffic congestion around major market corridors in Kano.

The governor further promised to solarise Singer Market as part of efforts to modernise markets across the state and improve the business environment.

He directed contractors handling the road projects to mobilise to site and commence work within 10 days.

Market leaders and elders thanked the governor for the visit and the interventions, describing the gesture as timely and reassuring, while commending the state government’s commitment to infrastructure development and traders’ welfare.
