Ahead First Lady’s Visit, INYC Mobilises Itsekiri Nation

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Itsekiri National Youth Council (INYC) has called on sons and daughters of Itsekiri Nation to turn out en masse to receive Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, ahead of her scheduled visit to Warri Kingdom.

In a statement issued on Sunday, President of INYC, Comrade Appearance Afejuku, urged Itsekiris at home and in the diaspora to prepare for what he described as a historic homecoming for the First Lady, who has biological ties to the Itsekiri ethnic nationality.

Senator Tinubu is expected to visit the Olu Palace in Warri on Thursday, February 26, where she will be received by the Olu of Warri and other traditional leaders.

Afejuku, in the statement, called for unity and a warm reception, noting that the visit presents an opportunity for the Itsekiri people to reaffirm their cultural bonds and hospitality.

“The Itsekiri National Youth Council under my leadership invites all sons and daughters of Warri Kingdom to heartily welcome Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, to the Olu of Warri Palace,” he stated.

The youth body emphasised that the visit is significant, given the First Lady’s ancestral connection to the Itsekiri Nation, and urged residents to conduct themselves peacefully and respectfully throughout the event.

The planned visit is expected to draw traditional rulers, political stakeholders and community leaders from across Warri Kingdom and Delta State.
