Ijaw Youths Barricade DESOPADEC gate Over …..

The coalition of Ijaw oil producing kingdom Youths, on Monday 27th January, staged a peaceful protest at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) headquarters expressing their dissatisfaction over the alleged underemployment and neglect of Ijaw areas by the commission.
The protest caused a temporary disruption of activities at the DESOPADEC headquarters,in Warri South Local government area, Delta,with security personnel on the scene.


The drawn from different Ijaw communities, who demonstrated with placards displaying various inscriptions,claimed that the Ijaw people have been marginalized and excluded from key development and social amenities by DESOPADEC.
Speaking to Prime Gossip Reporter, Comrade Roland Deidre, National President Ogulagha Youth Council who spoke on behalf of the protesters demanded that the state government and DESOPADEC management address their grievances.
He explained that they decided to embarke on the protester after series of letters to the commission” we have written to the commission on several occasions and we have also agreed on some implementation dates with the commission, but they have failed to address our concerns, Our communities contribute significantly to revenue in DESOPADEC and Delta state but we are neglected and marginalized”.
He added” what we are asking for skills acquisition centers in our kingdoms,boats for subsided means of transport,a youth Secretariat and Space Bus for official movement”.
Gbaramatu kingdom youth president Mr Egbejuleh said they are committed and open to resolving the issues amicably.
He however maintained that the peaceful protest will continue until their demands are addressed.
