DELTA: Former Deputy Senate President and 2023 Delta APC governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has assured party supporters that the internal crisis within the state chapter will soon be resolved.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Obiaruku and Kwale, covering Ukwuani and Ndokwa West LGAs, Omo-Agege commended party members for their resilience in the last elections and called for unity ahead of 2027.
“We need everybody to come together and work as a team because the end of one election marks the beginning of another,” he said. “No one enters an election divided and expects to win.”
Omo-Agege attributed the APC’s 2023 loss to alleged manipulation by the PDP, stressing that the party’s victory in two of Delta’s three senatorial districts was a significant milestone. He urged members to consolidate on that success and strategize to take over the state in 2027.
The former senator criticized the Delta State government’s management of increased revenue following fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification. He alleged that funds meant for development were being mismanaged.
“Despite receiving over N1 trillion from FAAC and IGR, the Delta State government and local councils have failed to develop the state,” he said. “Instead, they prioritize debt repayment, cater to godfathers, and oil party structures. We must put an end to this wasteful governance.”
He called on the people of Ndokwa to demand accountability from the government regarding oil revenues and other resources.
Omo-Agege reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing that the APC must secure Delta in 2027 to sustain the administration’s economic reforms.
“The agenda has already yielded significant gains, including higher revenue for states and local governments, better economic growth rates, declining imports, and higher exports,” he said. “To sustain this momentum, we must ensure APC takes control of Delta in 2027.”
Several APC leaders, including Barr. David Ochonogor, Chief Dele Omenogor, Chief Johnson Opone, and Prof. Ogwezi Chuks, lauded Omo-Agege’s efforts in the region, particularly his role in establishing the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Kwale. They pledged their continued support for his political ambitions.
