By Peter Onyekachukwu, Warri

DELTA: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Swedish investors to take advantage of the state’s peaceful environment, strategic location, and vast natural resources to maximize investment returns.

Governor Oborevwori made the appeal on Tuesday when he received the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn-Englund, and her delegation at Government House, Asaba.

“Delta State is a peaceful place and a major contributor to Nigeria’s crude oil production. We are open for business and assure investors of a conducive environment to thrive,” Oborevwori stated.

Highlighting the state’s infrastructure, he said, “We have three airports—the Asaba International Cargo Airport, Osubi/Warri Airport, and Escravos Airport, which serves the coastal oil terminal. Our special economic zones, including the Kwale Free Trade Zone, Koko Free Trade Zone, and Ogwashi-Uku Agro Industrial Park, offer incentives like tax holidays and duty-free imports and exports.”

He assured that Delta State provides the necessary support for investors, emphasizing, “We encourage Swedish companies to explore opportunities here, and we guarantee profitability. This visit will strengthen our relationship with Sweden and attract more investors.”

In her remarks, Ambassador Hahn-Englund congratulated Oborevwori on his Governor of the Year award by ThisDay Newspaper and Arise Television, expressing her excitement about visiting Delta.

“Sweden and Nigeria have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1961. We have Swedish companies in Nigeria in ICT, infrastructure, telecom, energy, and transportation, and we aim to expand trade and investment,” she said.

She noted that high-ranking Swedish officials, including the Vice President and Prime Minister, had visited Nigeria recently, reinforcing their commitment to strengthening economic ties.
