Environmental Nuisance In Warri: Court slams N500,000, N300,000 fines on Mosque, Pigsty.

Efforts to clean up Warri South Local government area received a major boost on Wednesday after a Chief Imam of a Mosque,under the pedestrian bridge at Ugbuwangue in Warri, Delta State, was given a Five hundred Thousand (N500,000.00) naira fine by the Magistrate Court I at the Police ‘A’ Division, Warri.

The Court, which is presided over by Chief Magistrate O.Y. Asheshebonwu, slammed the Chief Imam of the Mosque with the fine, as a result of a catch pit behind the mosque, which is open and smelling, just as hearing in the case will come up on the 10th of February.

Chief Magistrate Asheshebonwu, also ordered the sealing of the makeshift market occupied by traders, mostly of Hausa extraction at the NPA Bye-pass, close to the NPA Old Port Gate, Warri.

The Warri South Council Environment Department Prosecutor, will go about the sealing order process today, Thursday February 06.

In a related development, Chief Magistrate O.Y. Asheshebonwu, earlier banged the owner of a pigsty at Cemetery Road, Warri, with a fine of Three Hundred Thousand (N300,000.00) naira for contempt of the Court and the case was adjourned to the 19th of February.

The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, while reacting to the development, stated that it will serve as deterrent to individuals and institutions .
