DELTA: The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed the South-South Zonal Congress, originally scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.

The decision, announced in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, was attributed to the need for further consultations to ensure a smooth exercise.

“The postponement of the South-South Congress is necessitated by the need for further consultation on critical issues relating to the smooth conduct of the congress in the zone,” the statement read.

While the South-South congress has been put on hold, the party confirmed that the South-East and North-East Zonal Congresses will proceed as planned in Enugu and Bauchi, respectively, on the same date.

The PDP apologized for any inconvenience the postponement may have caused, assuring stakeholders that a new date would be announced in due course.

“All aspirants, critical stakeholders, leaders, and members of our party, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, should take note of the changes,” Ologunagba stated.

The announcement has sparked discussions within the party, with political observers noting that the decision may be linked to internal negotiations over leadership positions within the South-South region.
