DELTA: The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disassociated itself from the purported inauguration of a “Leadership Council” in its Delta State chapter, declaring that the party’s national leadership never approved such a structure. The development has sparked concerns over internal party cohesion in the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, clarified that the reported inauguration of the council was unauthorized and had no constitutional backing within the party. He warned that any such formation operating under the APC banner would not be recognized by the national leadership.
“The NWC did not grant approval for the inauguration or operation of the so-called ‘Leadership Council’ in the Delta State Chapter of our party,” Morka stated. “This council is neither a statutory organ, structure, nor committee recognized under the APC constitution.”
The announcement comes amid growing concerns over factionalism within the Delta State APC, as different interest groups seek to exert influence ahead of future political contests. Some party members in the state have viewed the establishment of the council as a strategic move by certain factions to consolidate power outside the official party structures.
Political analysts believe the controversy could deepen existing divisions within the party’s Delta chapter. A senior APC member in the state, who preferred to remain anonymous, described the situation as “troubling” and called for the national leadership to intervene decisively. “This kind of unauthorized group can create confusion and weaken the party’s structure ahead of critical elections,” he said.
The party’s national leadership has urged members in Delta State to abide strictly by the constitution and avoid engaging in activities that could undermine unity. “The APC remains committed to discipline and order. Any group or individuals engaging in parallel structures do so at their own risk,” Morka reiterated.
As the controversy unfolds, stakeholders within the Delta APC are expected to deliberate on the implications of the disavowal. Party faithful in the state now await further directives from the national leadership on how to navigate the situation without jeopardizing internal cohesion.
