Govt Warns Politicians Against Misinformation, Lists Ongoing Projects in Delta

By Peter Onyekachukwu, Warri

DELTA: The Delta State Government has vowed not to allow idle politicians to mislead the public with false claims, insisting that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration is delivering verifiable projects across the state. The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, stated this while addressing journalists in Asaba on Monday.

Aniagwu, criticized politicians who, he said, were attempting to deceive Deltans due to their lack of political appointments. He specifically reacted to comments made by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who accused the state government of neglecting certain areas during his visit to Bomadi and Burutu local government areas.

“At the weekend, we saw the former Deputy Senate President, a man Governor Oborevwori defeated convincingly in the last election, making baseless claims about government neglect. It is unfortunate that some people choose to spread misinformation rather than acknowledge the numerous projects being executed across the state,” Aniagwu said.

Listing key infrastructural developments, Aniagwu highlighted road projects, school construction, and health sector improvements. He cited projects in Isoko North and South, including massive investments in the Southern Delta University, Ozoro, and the ongoing construction of the College of Health Technology, Ovrode. He added that technical colleges in Irri and Omadino were also nearing completion.

“The Ughelli-Asaba road, which cuts across three senatorial districts, is receiving serious attention. In Patani, work is ongoing on the Uduophori road, alongside school and water projects. In Bomadi, the 47km Ohoror-Bomadi road is progressing, while the 18.6km Bomadi-Gbaregolor road has been approved,” Aniagwu added.

He further mentioned key road projects in riverine areas such as the Okontu-Ogulaha road in Burutu (12.5km), Benikrukru internal roads, and the Ogbudugbudu-Ogbeinbiri road in Warri North. He also pointed to the ongoing construction of the Trans-Warri-Ode-Itsekiri road and bridges, for which the government has committed over a billion naira monthly to fast-track completion.

Addressing concerns in Delta North, Aniagwu listed several completed and ongoing projects, including storm drainage in Owa-Alero, multiple road constructions in Ndokwa West and East, and the completion of the Beneku Bridge, which has ended the reliance on pontoons to cross the Asse Creek. “These are verifiable projects, not empty political talk,” he stressed.

Taking a swipe at Omo-Agege, Aniagwu reminded him that he once served as Secretary to the State Government under the PDP-led administration. “When he claims PDP has done nothing in 25 years, he forgets that he was part of that government. Does that mean he was ineffective during his time in office?” Aniagwu questioned.

He urged opposition figures to engage with facts rather than spread misinformation. “We don’t want them embarrassing us as Deltans with their ignorance. Delta no suppose carry last, so tell them to ‘wise up’ a little,” he quipped, adding that the government has also banned illegal mining at Ugbolu Heights due to environmental concerns.
