DELTA: The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Asaba, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, has assured staff and patients of improved healthcare services through enhanced infrastructure, staff welfare, and funding.

Dr. Idele, who was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in January 2025, made this known during a familiarization tour of the hospital, where she assessed facilities, engaged with key stakeholders, and outlined her plans to align the hospital with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the federal government.

“I have toured the facilities, interacted with staff, and observed patient care, and I can confidently say that FMC Asaba is providing top-notch healthcare,” she said.

She expressed particular satisfaction with the neonatal and maternity wards, highlighting their modern equipment and well-trained personnel. She also visited the College of Nursing in Onicha-Uku, describing it as a first-class institution with world-class training facilities.

However, while commending the hospital’s leadership under Medical Director Dr. Victor Osiatuma, she pointed out the challenge of incomplete projects, many of which remain at 60% completion due to insufficient funding.

“A lot of buildings are still ongoing, and like Oliver Twist, we must continue to ask for more. We plead for continuous funding to complete these essential facilities,” she added.

Dr. Idele also stressed the importance of staff welfare, stating that a well-motivated workforce is key to quality healthcare delivery.

“A happy staff delivers better service. One of my key goals is to enhance staff welfare by addressing gaps, ensuring they have the necessary resources to perform at their best,” she said.

She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that FMC Asaba remains at the forefront of quality healthcare, urging all stakeholders to support efforts to advance President Tinubu’s healthcare vision.

Her visit has sparked optimism among staff and patients, with expectations of increased funding, better working conditions, and improved service delivery in the coming months.
