DELTA: A devastating gas tanker explosion at Otedola Bridge in Lagos on Monday night has left one person dead, four others injured, and several properties destroyed.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 8:30 pm when a fully loaded gas tanker lost control and overturned while attempting to access the expressway from Otedola Estate Road.

NEMA’s South-West Territorial Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, revealed that the explosion engulfed 14 vehicles, a commercial storey building, and four shops. Emergency responders swiftly moved in to contain the fire and prevent further damage.

“The situation was critical, but swift intervention helped prevent more casualties,” Farinloye said. “Sadly, one life was lost, while four people sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.”

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of fuel-laden trucks navigating Lagos roads, with residents and commuters calling for stricter regulations to prevent such occurrences.
