DELTA: Residents of Issele-Uku in Aniocha North, Delta State, witnessed a historic moment as Senator Ned Nwoko commissioned an ultra-modern mini stadium aimed at boosting sports development in the region.
The newly completed facility features a standard football pitch, a seven-a-side multi-sports pitch, pavilions, and fully equipped dressing rooms. The project, which was initially abandoned by past administrations, has been revived to serve as a hub for young athletes and sports enthusiasts.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Michael Nwoko, chief of staff to the senator, highlighted the lawmaker’s vision for grassroots sports development. “Senator Nwoko believes in catching them young. His commitment to sports is evident in this facility and his establishment of Nigeria’s first Sports University in Idumuje-Ugboko,” he said.
The Sports University, which is now in its second academic session, offers students the opportunity to combine academics with professional sports training. Senator Nwoko’s intervention in both education and sports underscores his belief in nurturing young talents from an early age.
The commissioning of the mini stadium has sparked excitement among residents, with many expressing optimism about the opportunities it will create for local athletes. “This is a dream come true for our youths. Many talented players will now have a proper facility to train,” said Chukwudi Okolie, a community leader.
With this initiative, Delta North is set to experience a resurgence in sporting activities, talent discovery, and economic growth, reinforcing Senator Nwoko’s long-standing commitment to youth empowerment and grassroots sports development.
