The Police Commands of Anambra and Enugu states have launched a joint interstate border patrol to curb rising criminal activities along their shared boundaries.

The initiative comes amid growing concerns over the activities of kidnappers and armed criminals who exploit border routes to evade law enforcement.

Following a strategic meeting at the Anambra State Police Command headquarters in Awka on Monday, the two Commissioners of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu (Anambra) and CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa (Enugu), resolved to strengthen collaboration in intelligence-sharing and joint operations.

Speaking on the development, Anambra State Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, emphasized that the meeting aligns with the Inspector-General of Police’s directive for enhanced regional security cooperation.

“The Commissioners identified cross-border criminal infiltration as a major challenge and have mapped out proactive strategies to dismantle criminal networks operating between the two states,” Ikenga said.

He further noted that both commands would integrate operational resources to ensure a sustained crackdown on criminal elements.

The Commissioners also sent a stern warning to criminals, urging them to desist or face the full wrath of the law.
