WARD DELINEATION: INEC Reacts, Says Ward Delineation in Warri NOT Final….

Abuja, April 10, 2025 —

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked widespread reports suggesting it has concluded the delineation of Wards in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Local Government Areas, which make up the Warri Federal Constituency in Delta State.

In a press release signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission clarified that it has not taken a final decision on the matter.

The clarification comes in response to “misleading narratives” surrounding the delineation exercise, which was ordered by the Supreme Court in a judgment delivered on December 2, 2022.

INEC stated that, in compliance with the court order, it conducted extensive consultations between February 2023 and July 2024, engaging critical stakeholders across the three LGAs. This was followed by comprehensive fieldwork across communities, which led to the creation of a draft report.

The latest round of stakeholder engagement took place in Warri on Friday, April 4, 2025. During the meeting, INEC presented the draft report to representatives of all parties involved, allowing them an opportunity to raise concerns and contribute to reaching a consensus.

“The overall objective was to arrive at an amicable agreement endorsed by all the parties involved,” the Commission noted.

INEC urged all stakeholders to submit their observations on the draft report to facilitate further dialogue and refinement of the proposed delineation. It also called for restraint and peaceful conduct, warning against actions that could jeopardize peace and security in the region.

“The Commission will continue to operate based on fairness, equity, the rule of law, and in full consultation with all stakeholders,” Olumekun emphasized.

The process remains ongoing, with further engagement expected before any final decision is made.
