Ex-NASENI Chief Unveils Solar Power Guide to Bridge Knowledge Gap in Nigeria

NASARAWA: A former Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Professor Mohammed Haruna, has said his newly authored book aims to address the lack of proper knowledge on solar electricity installation among Nigerians.

Speaking at the formal distribution of the book in Keffi, Nasarawa State, Prof. Haruna said the publication titled “Solar Power System Design, Installation and Maintenance” was designed as a practical guide to help citizens understand and properly implement solar energy systems.

“The issue with many solar installations failing is not that solar doesn’t work, but rather that people do not understand how it works,” he said. “This book is a step-by-step guide for Nigerians who want to do it right, whether for personal use, professional practice or academic study.”

He emphasized that the book includes detailed illustrations, load survey methods, and real-life case studies that would benefit engineers, architects, and students alike. To ensure wider reach, 1,400 copies of the book were donated to tertiary institutions across Nasarawa State.

“We’ve ensured that the language is simple and the approach is practical. It can serve as a teaching material in universities and polytechnics offering courses on solar technology,” he added.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, who was represented at the event by the Nasarawa APC Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Bello, lauded the gesture, describing it as a valuable contribution to the state’s and nation’s efforts toward self-reliance through skill acquisition.

“This aligns perfectly with our administration’s vision of empowering young people with practical knowledge and making our people more productive,” Bello stated.

Also lending his voice, former APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, described the book as an outstanding contribution to engineering education and green energy awareness.

“When I was in school, solar energy was unknown. Today, it is not just an option, it’s a necessity,” Adamu said. “This book opens a door for students and professionals to understand what solar power truly is and how to harness it effectively.”

Prof. Sa’adatu Liman, Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, represented by her deputy, Prof. Theophilus Lagi, praised the donation as timely and enriching to the academic community.

The book, co-authored by Prof. Haruna and Mallam Nasiru Bello, is expected to serve as a benchmark material for training and deployment of solar technologies across Nigeria, especially as the country seeks sustainable energy solutions amid growing power supply challenges.
