Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta State, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Charles Aniagwu, the state’s commissioner for information, announced the development on Wednesday.
He explained that the decision had the unanimous backing of PDP leaders across Delta, motivated by a shared vision to promote unity, bolster security, and accelerate development within the state.
Aniagwu stated that after extensive deliberations, the PDP leadership in Delta came to the “inevitable conclusion” that switching parties was essential for ensuring political stability.
“We believe that what is happening and the state of the PDP is akin to that palm wine whose taste has changed, and there was a need for us to change the drinking pattern,” Aniagwu said.
He added that the move was collectively agreed upon by party leaders and stakeholders. According to him, a significant announcement will be made on Monday next week to formalize their transition into the APC.
