DELTA: Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District, has described the defection of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a landmark moment that signals a fresh political direction for the state.
Reacting to the development, the Senator took to his official Facebook page to commend the governor and the defectors, noting that their decision marked a “historic turning point” for Delta State and the country at large.
“Today marks a historic moment for Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.
“I warmly welcome His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State, and all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
He noted that the governor’s defection was more than just a political move, but a bold step toward deepening governance and fostering unity.
“This bold step signifies a turning point in our state’s political history, ushering in a new era of unity, development, and progressive governance.
“As a leader of APC in Delta State and Senator representing Delta South, I reassure our supporters that this move strengthens our collective resolve to deliver dividends of democracy,” he stated.
He urged APC members to welcome the defectors in the spirit of unity and camaraderie, emphasizing that the development aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“In line with the Renewed Hope agenda, we must prioritize unity and collaboration. I urge all APC faithful to welcome Governor Oborevwori and the incoming members with open arms. Our unity is our strength, and together, we’ll deepen democratic ideals and policy directions that serve Deltans’ best interests,” he said.
He further stated that the defection ushers in a fresh opportunity for greater collaboration, inclusive governance, and a renewed focus on the aspirations of the people of Delta State.
“I congratulate Governor Oborevwori and all new APC members on this unprecedented move. Together, we’ll write a new chapter in Delta State’s history,” the Senator added.
