PDP Inaugurates New BoT Members as Governors Meet Over Party Crisis

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will inaugurate new members of its Board of Trustees (BoT) today, Monday, in Abuja.

The ceremony will be held at the party’s national headquarters in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, at 11 a.m., according to a circular signed by the PDP’s Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom.

The move comes after concerns that many BoT members had become inactive. A February report revealed that 85 of 127 members were no longer involved in party activities. The new appointments aim to revitalize the board and strengthen its role.

The BoT is a key part of the PDP’s leadership. It helps maintain order, advises on policy, and protects the party’s image and assets. It includes former presidents, vice presidents, party chairmen, National Assembly leaders, and other senior members from all states.

Current BoT Chairman and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, has led recent peace efforts but has faced criticism over questions of quorum and decision-making authority.

In a related development, six PDP governors and top party figures held a closed-door meeting on Sunday in Abuja. The meeting took place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge and was led by Governor Bala Mohammed.

Governors at the meeting included Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).

Also present were acting PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum, BoT Secretary Ahmed Makarfi, and former governors including Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal, Sule Lamido, Udom Emmanuel, and Samuel Ortom.

The meeting focused on resolving internal disputes, especially over the position of National Secretary. Leaders also discussed recent defections and strategies for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and National Elective Convention on May 27.

Today’s BoT inauguration is seen as a step toward stabilizing the PDP and preparing for future political battles.
