DELTA: The Delta Central chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday held a high-level meeting that could redefine the political future of Delta State, as party leaders rallied behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Ede Dafinone.
The closed-door strategic session, hosted at the Sapele residence of Senator Dafinone, signaled a significant shift in the state’s political alignment, with the APC formally embracing Governor Oborevwori previously elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the new leader of the party in Delta.
This dramatic endorsement, made public by Senator Dafinone and backed by party stakeholders, has sparked fresh conversations across Delta’s political circles. “Governor Oborevwori is now the leader of the APC in Delta State. That is the political reality,” Dafinone declared, describing the move as a bold but necessary step for party consolidation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chief Paulinus Akpeki, Vice Chairman of Delta APC and head of the Delta Central zone, urged members to remain disciplined and united. “The renewed direction of the party requires our full commitment and absolute loyalty,” he said, warning against internal divisions and calling on party faithful to key into the emerging structure.
Amid swirling rumors of internal feuds, particularly between Senator Dafinone and former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Dafinone used the occasion to set the record straight. “There is no rift between myself and Senator Omo-Agege. We remain focused on our shared goal of delivering for our people,” he stated.
In what appeared to be a calculated show of strength and cohesion, a motion was moved by the State Financial Secretary, Mr. William Deniran, and seconded by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., passing a thunderous vote of confidence in Tinubu, Oborevwori, and Dafinone. The crowd of party leaders erupted in applause, signaling widespread support across the senatorial zone.
The party also reviewed the progress of the ongoing APC membership registration and tasked local government leaders with intensifying grassroots mobilization efforts. Attendees included LGA chairmen, party executives, youth leaders, and political aides, all of whom pledged loyalty to the restructured leadership.
Spiritual closure was given to the event with prayers led by Engr. Isaiah Kekeje, Chairman of Ughelli South LGA, symbolizing unity and divine guidance as the party forges ahead.
As political alliances continue to shift, Sunday’s meeting may well mark the beginning of a new political order in Delta State one where old party lines blur and new power blocs emerge under a banner of strategic pragmatism and unity.
