Ibadan Businessman Flees City, Petitions DSS Over Alleged Assassination Plot in Land Dispute

An Ibadan-based businessman, Mr. Ayodeji Aleshe, has filed a petition with the Oyo State Directorate of the Department of State Services (DSS), alleging threats to his life over a contentious property dispute.

In the petition dated April 28, 2025, submitted by his lawyer, Mr. Michael Lana, Aleshe accused Alhaji Saheed Omogbolahan Adigun and one Kazeem Agbolahan, also known as “Lebe,” of forming a private militia and issuing threats to his life. The threats, he said, stem from an ongoing court case over two plots of land located at Nos. NW6/33 and NW6/34, Fajuyi Road, Eko Tedo, Ibadan.

According to the petition, Aleshe is the claimant in suit No. I/1095/2024, filed against Adigun and three others. He stated that the legal dispute arose when a man, claiming to represent the Momodu Akande family, filed a separate suit against him without proper notification, and subsequently obtained judgment over a different parcel of land, NW6/29.

Rather than enforcing the court ruling on NW6/29, the petitioner alleged that Adigun and his associates attempted to execute the judgment on his own fenced property, which he has held since 2012. Aleshe further claimed that instead of awaiting the outcome of his pending case, Adigun enlisted Agbolahan to lead an armed group to intimidate him, warning that “only the living can win a court case.”

Fearing for his safety, Aleshe said he fled Ibadan on April 23, 2025. His lawyer has requested urgent DSS intervention to prevent further development on the disputed land and to hold Adigun accountable should any harm come to his client.

“We seek a thorough investigation into this matter and a halt to any construction activity on the land until the court determines ownership,” the petition read. “If anything happens to our client, we will hold Mr. Saheed Omogbolahan Adigun responsible.
