MAAUN Shuts Kano Female Hostels Over Safety, Morality Concerns

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has shut down two female hostels in Kano over safety and disciplinary concerns.

The affected hostels — Al-Ansar Indabo at Hotoro and UDB Road — were immediately de-approved due to violations of the university’s code of conduct.

In a statement on Monday, Dr. Hamza Garba, Vice President of Campus Life, said the hostels failed to meet required standards. Reported issues include immoral behavior, poor utilities, student violence, and unauthorized night movement.

“These pose serious risks to student safety,” Garba said.

Students must vacate the hostels after their semester exams. MAAUN warned it will not be responsible for any consequences of ignoring the directive.

Parents and students are advised to contact the university for guidance on approved hostels. Security agencies are working with MAAUN to ensure full compliance.
