Obasanjo: Nigeria Still a Work in Progress

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described Nigeria as “a work in progress,” urging leaders at all levels not to consider their roles complete, as much remains to be done.

He made the remarks in Abuja during the launch of Being True to Myself, the autobiography of former Foreign Minister Sule Lamido.

“Our job isn’t finished until we are finished,” Obasanjo said, commending Lamido for promoting Nigeria’s global image during his time in office.

Obasanjo recalled appointing Lamido as Foreign Minister after his initial choice declined. He praised Lamido’s integrity and noted that during his administration, Nigeria transformed from a pariah state to one welcomed on the global stage, culminating in Queen Elizabeth’s visit during CHOGM.

He added that Lamido performed admirably as Jigawa State Governor and has earned his place as a statesman.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Information Minister Mohammed Idris, described Lamido as a symbol of courage and consistency in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Other dignitaries at the event included former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, ex-governors, and political leaders across party lines.
