AGONY!! as Drug Shortage hits Delta Central Hospital

DELTA: Nursing mothers in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State have expressed frustration over the alleged unavailability of drugs for children aged 0-5 years, despite government promises of free medical treatment through its health insurance scheme.

According to One of the mothers, Mrs. Kevwe, narrated her experience at the hospital, She said, “I brought my one-year-seven-month-old daughter for treatment, but we were told there are no drugs available.

They said the supply ran out weeks ago and might only be replenished by next week. Mothers who came earlier were only given paracetamol, and even that is unavailable today. This is heartbreaking,” she said.

While the Delta State Government has long promised free health services for children under five, many mothers are reportedly being turned away due to a lack of essential drugs.

On his part, The Zonal Medical Director, Dr. Valentine Ezeachi, denied these claims, insisting that drugs are available at the hospital pharmacy. “Patients are only asked to buy drugs not available in our pharmacy,” he explained.

This comes amid growing concerns about the state of healthcare delivery in Delta State, with critics calling on the Ministry of Health to address the inconsistencies in drug supply.

A nursing mother added, “We are appealing to the state government to ensure that drugs are available. Our children’s health should be a priority.”

This incident follows recent allegations of substandard treatment at the same hospital, raising questions about the overall quality of healthcare services in the area.

Residents have called for an urgent review of drug distribution to ensure that vulnerable groups, especially young children, receive timely medical care.
