Tensions Flare in Udo Community as Soldiers Confront Police Over Alleged Assault

A confrontation erupted in Udo Community, Benin, after a police officer allegedly assaulted a soldier for refusing to give a bribe, a development that has ignited a wave of public outrage following its circulation on social media.

According to a viral post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the incident occurred when a soldier was reportedly stopped by a police officer who demanded money. After the soldier declined and identified himself as military personnel, he was allegedly assaulted by the officer.

In retaliation, the soldier reported the matter to his colleagues, who later stormed the police post in numbers. The soldiers identified the officer involved, seized his service rifle, and reportedly disciplined the officers responsible for the attack.

A video shared online captures a tense exchange, with one soldier voicing his anger:

“This police, una dey beat soldiers. Una get mind oo. Na their rifle be this. Una say make e give you money, e no gree, you’re beating a soldier.”

The video has since sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians condemning the incident and calling for immediate disciplinary action against the officer involved.

Observers say the altercation underscores ongoing tensions between security agencies and the persistent issue of extortion in parts of the country.
