A team of aviation investigators has arrived in Kwara State to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of last Friday’s crash-landing of a Diamond training aircraft operated by the Aviation Training School. The incident occurred during a simulated instrument approach on Runway 05 at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, at approximately 17:26 local time.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) had earlier initiated an on-site investigation, with Director General Captain Alex Badeh Jr. personally visiting the crash site. According to NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Bimbo Oladeji, key flight data has already been recovered and is undergoing analysis.
The aircraft had two occupants, both of whom survived the crash and are currently receiving medical care. One of the victims has undergone an MRI scan, and both are reported to be conscious and in stable condition.
The investigation aims to determine the exact cause of the incident and ensure the continued safety of training operations across the country.
