In a decisive move to address rising security concerns across Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori convened a high-level security meeting on Thursday with Service Commanders, members of the Delta State House of Assembly, Local Government Council Chairmen, traditional rulers, and members of the State Executive Council.
The meeting, held at Unity Hall in Government House, Asaba, focused on developing robust strategies to combat kidnapping, ritual killings, drug abuse, and other criminal activities plaguing communities across the state.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the fight against insecurity must be a collective effort, stressing that “security is a shared responsibility and all hands must be on deck.” As part of immediate measures, he directed all Local Government Council Chairmen to convene their local security council meetings on a monthly basis without fail.
Participants at the meeting deliberated on various proactive measures, including the strengthening and empowerment of local vigilante groups as critical players in community policing efforts.
The Governor praised the commitment of security agencies in the state and called for deeper collaboration with traditional institutions, noting that the support of royal fathers remains invaluable in intelligence gathering and conflict resolution.
He also appealed to residents to support the fight against crime by providing grassroots intelligence to security operatives, assuring that all information would be treated with the utmost confidentiality and urgency.
Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and pledged continuous support to all stakeholders working to maintain peace and order in Delta State.
