Police Moves to Reclaim Abraka from Criminal Elements in Delta

Amid rising anxiety over violent crimes in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units to restore law and order in the troubled community.

The move follows growing concerns from residents and a surge of reports on social media detailing kidnappings, armed robberies, and cult-related violence in the university town. The deployment is seen as a response to calls for urgent intervention to address what many describe as a deteriorating security situation.

Speaking through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Command said that the CP has tasked Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Aina Adesola, with overseeing the deployment of special tactical teams including Dragon Patrol, Safer Highway Patrol, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU).

“These teams have been deployed to carry out day-and-night patrols, man strategic checkpoints, and conduct intelligence-led operations with a clear mandate to fish out criminal elements terrorising the area,” the police said.

Reassuring residents of the Command’s commitment, CP Abaniwonda stated that no effort would be spared in returning safety to every corner of Abraka. “We are committed to protecting lives and property. Anyone threatening the peace of our communities will be apprehended and prosecuted. Delta State must remain safe for all.”

The Commissioner also cautioned against the spread of unverified reports capable of creating panic, urging residents to channel all credible information to the police through official emergency lines.

“Citizens should remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement officers, and report any suspicious activities promptly,” Edafe added.

Residents can contact the Delta State Police Command through the following emergency numbers:
