The Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF), 223 Light Battalion, Zuru, successfully repelled a large-scale attack by over 400 armed bandits on Ribah town in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Wednesday.

According to a statement by the Director of Security in the Cabinet Office, Abdulrahman Zagga, a fierce gun battle ensued between the troops and the attackers, resulting in the deaths of numerous bandits. While some of the insurgents managed to recover the bodies of their fallen comrades, others were left behind, along with a cache of weapons.

Zagga praised the troops’ bravery and superior combat tactics, which he said were crucial in overcoming the heavily armed group. He also commended the Nigerian Air Force for its swift air support, which dealt devastating blows to the fleeing bandits and helped secure the area.

Though the incident initially caused panic in Ribah, Zagga confirmed that normalcy has since returned to the community. He revealed that the assailants are believed to be the same group responsible for recent attacks in Niger State, attempting to extend their operations into Kebbi before being stopped.
In a related incident, troops from Dukku Barracks also foiled an attempted cattle rustling by Lakurawa bandits in Mera, Augie Local Government Area. The attackers were forced to retreat under heavy military resistance.

Governor Nasir Idris has lauded the Nigerian Army and all security agencies involved in both operations, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting security efforts, especially in high-risk areas.
