Nigeria’s Super Falcons have made history again by becoming the first African team to win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) ten times.
In a thrilling final played in Rabat on Friday night, the Falcons staged a stunning comeback to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2, completing what they called #MissionX.
Down 2-0 at halftime, the Nigerian team faced a tough challenge. But, true to their reputation, they delivered a spirited second-half performance that silenced the Moroccan crowd and reaffirmed their dominance in African women’s football.
Esther Okoronkwo ignited the comeback in the 64th minute with a calm finish to bring the score to 2-1.
Okoronkwo later dazzled with a solo run past several Moroccan defenders and delivered a perfect pass to Folashade Ijamilusi, who equalized with confidence.
With just two minutes remaining, substitute Jennifer Echegini sealed the victory, finishing off a thunderous long-range freekick from Okoronkwo to complete the turnaround and secure Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title.
