Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima departed Abuja yesterday for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will represent Nigeria at the second United Nations Food Systems Summit, scheduled from July 27 to 29, 2025.

Shettima joined other global leaders at the high level event, focusing on the transformation of the coffee value chain and engaging in various roundtables aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s food security initiatives.
The summit aims to review progress since the 2021 inaugural UN Food Systems Summit and accelerate commitments towards building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems worldwide.

The Vice President will also participate in sideline events promoting knowledge exchange and partnerships, showcasing real-world examples of food system transformation. These include a ministerial roundtable on public finance, trade, and responsible investment.

Earlier, VP Shettima outlined Nigeria’s three key objectives for the summit: positioning the country as a thought leader in African food systems reform, leveraging international partnerships to align with domestic priorities, and advancing a private sector-led model for continental food transformation.
The summit is a collaborative effort between the United Nations and the governments of Ethiopia and Italy. The Vice President is expected to return to Nigeria upon the conclusion of his engagements.
