By Peter Onyekachukwu

Tragedy struck in Jigawa State on Monday, August 4, 2025, as a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, Superintendent Bashir Adamu Jibril, was brutally lynched by a mob while performing his duty at Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred at about 1:30 p.m., unfolded after the officer arrested a suspected criminal. Eyewitnesses said the arrest sparked agitation among hoodlums, who mobilised and attacked the officer with cutlasses, sticks, and other dangerous weapons in a bid to obstruct justice.

The officer sustained fatal injuries and was rushed to the Dutse General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The Jigawa State Command of the NSCDC has confirmed the incident and vowed to ensure justice is served. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, disclosed that the mastermind of the attack has been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other perpetrators.

“We have launched a full investigation into this barbaric act. The culprits will not go unpunished,” Mahmud said.

The NSCDC described the attack as a senseless act of jungle justice and condemned the killing in strong terms. The late SC Bashir Adamu Jibril was hailed as a brave and disciplined officer who demonstrated unwavering dedication to national service.

The incident has sparked public outrage and condemnation, with many calling for immediate and decisive action to ensure justice for the slain officer. The NSCDC assured that no stone would be left unturned in bringing all those involved to book.
