By Peter Onyekachukwu, Warri The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has reiterated the enforcement of the ban on fireworks and other pyrotechnics during the festive period, emphasizing that the measure is critical to ensuring a peaceful and secure Yuletide for residents.
In a statement issued on Thursday, CP Abaniwonda stressed that the use, sale, and public display of items like “knock-out” and “banger” remain prohibited. He highlighted that such items are often exploited by criminal elements to cause unrest and commit crimes.
“This ban is part of our proactive efforts to protect lives and property during the Yuletide. We will not tolerate any form of fireworks, either for sale or use,” the Commissioner stated.
The police boss called on parents and guardians to caution their children against the use of fireworks and warned retailers to desist from displaying or selling such items. He further cautioned that violators of the ban would be apprehended and prosecuted.
To enforce compliance, CP Abaniwonda has instructed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to ensure strict adherence within their areas of responsibility.
“We count on the cooperation of law-abiding citizens and urge them to report cases of fireworks use or sales to the nearest police station or through the command’s control room numbers,” he added.
The Commissioner appealed to the public to support the police in maintaining peace and security throughout the festive season by adhering to the directive and promptly reporting violations.
