Renewed Hope Mother and Child Hospital Commissioned in Delta

By Peter Onyekachukeu

A new 80-bed specialist hospital dedicated to maternal and child healthcare has been commissioned in Ugbuwangue, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The facility, named Renewed Hope Mother and Child Specialist Hospital, was built by the Federal Government through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and handed over to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba.

Acting Medical Director of FMC Asaba, Dr. Ekeneam Omo, described the hospital as a symbol of government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and achieving universal health coverage.

“Our pledge is to uphold the highest standards of medical ethics, professionalism, and compassion. We shall ensure that every patient who walks through these doors is treated with dignity, empathy, and excellence,” he said.

Dr. Omo listed the hospital’s facilities to include emergency, female, paediatric, neonatal and labour wards, an intensive care unit, a modern theatre, laboratory, consulting rooms, staff accommodation, and an alternative power system.

He expressed appreciation to Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, SSA to the President on SDGs, and His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, for supporting the project.

He also appealed for additional land and resources to expand diagnostic services and provide equipment such as digital X-ray and CT scan machines.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comrade Isaac Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, said the project was a visible demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda in Warri.

“Until now we may have been hearing of the Renewed Hope Agenda, but today we are now seeing it being replicated live and direct here in Warri City,” he said, adding that the hospital would help reduce the area’s high maternal and child mortality rates.

Board Chairman of FMC Asaba, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, described the hospital as “a beacon of hope and a testament to our collective commitment to the health and well-being of mothers and their children.”

She called for expansion plans and reliable solar power to ensure uninterrupted healthcare delivery. “This facility is not merely a building. It is a symbol of hope, a symbol of love, and a promise of a healthier future for our mothers and for our children,” she said.

The commissioning was attended by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, traditional rulers, community leaders, and dignitaries from across the state and Abuja.
