MAKURDI — The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four of its members for three months over their alleged involvement in an impeachment plot against the Speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh. The suspension was handed down on Friday during a plenary session.
The suspended lawmakers are:
- Mr. Alfred Berger (Makurdi North State Constituency)
- Cyril Ekong (Oju 2 State Constituency)
- Abu Umoru (Apa State Constituency)
- Shimawua Terna (Kyan State Constituency)
Following the suspension, the Assembly also announced changes to its leadership. Mr. Kennedy Angbo was named the new Deputy Majority Leader, Douglas Akya became the Deputy Chief Whip, and Elias Audu was appointed the new spokesman of the House.
In a separate session, the Assembly began the screening of five commissioner nominees. Two additional nominees, Ogwu Odeh and Imojime Tiza, are scheduled to be screened at a later date.
