DELTA: The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has urged Nigerians to refrain from panic buying of petroleum products as the festive season approaches, assuring that there is sufficient supply to meet demands.
The Coordinator of NMDPRA in Delta State, Mr. Victor Ohwodiasa, gave the assurance on Friday in Warri during a media briefing.
He emphasized that depots across the state are adequately stocked with Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO), and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK).
“There is no need for panic buying because all the depots are wet with products. The federal government is doing everything possible to ensure availability throughout the yuletide season,” Ohwodiasa stated.
He also cautioned against unsafe practices like storing fuel at home or carrying it in vehicle boots, noting that such actions could lead to fire disasters.
“Petroleum products are highly inflammable. Storing them at home or carrying them in vehicles is dangerous and could endanger lives and properties,” he warned.
Ohwodiasa urged motorists and residents to purchase fuel only from licensed retail outlets, which the authority can regulate.
“People should buy only the quantity they need at a time and report illegal operators or those selling PMS at home. We will take immediate action and provide feedback,” he assured.
The coordinator concluded by wishing Nigerians a merry Christmas and reaffirmed NMDPRA’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties, particularly those of Delta State residents.
