The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, CP Dahiru Muhammad, has appealed to journalists for stronger collaboration in the fight against crime and drug abuse across the state.
CP Muhammad made the call when members of the Correspondents Chapel paid him a courtesy visit at the command headquarters in Dutse, the state capital. He said the media plays a critical role in promoting security consciousness, building public trust in security agencies, and encouraging citizens to share vital information with the police.
“Beyond reporting our activities, the media builds confidence in security institutions and helps create awareness of the role every citizen must play in ensuring peace and stability,” he said.
The new Commissioner emphasized that his policing strategy would focus on closer community collaboration, proactive policing, diligent investigation and prosecution, and building public confidence in law enforcement.
“This time around, we will extend our relationship with communities beyond security, to build trust and ensure everyone understands the role expected of them in promoting peace and stability,” CP Muhammad stated.
Responding, Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Muhammad Zangina Kura, said the visit was to strengthen the long-standing cordial relationship between journalists and the police in Jigawa.
He assured the Commissioner of the Chapel’s readiness to support the command’s new strategy by enlightening the public on their responsibilities and drawing the police’s attention to emerging issues that could avert crime or breakdown of law and order.
“Security is a collective responsibility, and we are committed to working hand-in-hand with the police to achieve the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s vision of inclusive policing,” Comrade Zangina added.
