JUST IN: Send Invoice of My Dues, I’ll Pay – Jibrin Replies NNPP After Expulsion

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed shock over his expulsion from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), saying he was never given a fair hearing.

On Saturday, NNPP’s Kano State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, announced Jibrin’s expulsion, accusing him of anti-party activities and failure to pay his financial dues. The party also threatened court action if he fails to settle his outstanding obligations.

But in a swift response through a personally signed statement, Jibrin dismissed the move as unfair and asked the party to simply forward his dues invoice instead of resorting to litigation.

> “On the issue of non-payment of my dues, I am appealing to the party that there is no need to go to court as I have never refused to pay my dues. I respectfully request the party to send me the invoice and I will promptly pay,” he said.

The lawmaker maintained that his recent media interview, which he believes triggered his expulsion, reflected the NNPP’s principles of free expression and dissent. He faulted the party for not inviting him to defend himself, arguing that even under military rule, an accused person faces a court martial.

Jibrin said he would have loved to remain in the NNPP despite some differences but has accepted the party’s decision “in good faith and without grudges.”

He, however, stressed that the party has a culture of underestimating the political value of its members. Still, he thanked the NNPP for its support during his stay and called on his supporters to prepare for his next political move.

> “I welcome all my supporters who wish to join me in my new journey. But for those who choose to remain in NNPP, I hold no grudges. I will carefully weigh all the options before me as I decide on my next political home. So help me God,” he declared.

Jibrin has in recent weeks hinted at leaving the NNPP. His repeated visits to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa have fueled speculation that he may soon join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
