Tinubu Support Group in South West Demands Wale Edun’s Resignation Over Zero Budget Performance

By Peter Onyekachukwu

A key support base of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the South West has called for the resignation of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, accusing him of presiding over what it described as “a historic zero per cent capital budget performance” in 2025.

The South West Democratic Agenda for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027, in a statement signed by its president, Otunba Adedayo Adewole, said Edun had failed the president, the administration, and Nigerians who expected better economic management.

“Until this moment, capital budget performance under this administration is at zero. That is not a figure of speech; it is the stark reality of a failed economic team. Wale Edun should resign and go home because he has failed completely in his responsibility to the nation,” Adewole declared.

The group lamented that, despite heavy borrowing at home and abroad, the federal government has been unable to service debts or begin implementing the 2025 Appropriation Act, even as the year advances into September.

It described the development as “disgraceful” and warned that the continued stay of the minister in office would worsen Nigeria’s economic woes.

According to the group, capital projects such as roads, hospitals, schools, power and water supply — which directly impact citizens — have stalled due to zero budget execution.

“This is not the Renewed Hope Nigerians were promised. This is renewed hardship,” the group said, blaming Edun’s leadership for what it called man-made economic hardship caused by poor policy choices and indifference to citizens’ suffering.

It also tasked the National Assembly to rise to its constitutional responsibility by demanding accountability. “If the legislature allows this failure to pass without consequence, then it too will be complicit in betraying Nigerians,” Adewole warned.

While pledging continued loyalty to President Tinubu, the group urged him to urgently overhaul his economic team.

“Mr. President must remember that Nigerians voted for him, not for Wale Edun. If Edun remains, the suffering of Nigerians will remain. If Edun goes, perhaps a new dawn can begin,” the statement concluded.
