Panic in Delta as Army Lt Colonel Kidnapped in Bomadi

By Peter Onyekachukwu

An Army officer, identified as Lt Colonel Josiah, has been abducted from his lodge in Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident, which happened in the early hours of Monday, has thrown the riverine town into panic, with soldiers of the Joint Task Force (JTF) mounting heavy patrols across Bomadi and neighbouring communities.

Findings revealed that Lt Colonel Josiah had attended a marriage ceremony at Kpakiama community, near Bomadi, over the weekend. He later retired to his lodge at the council headquarters, where the gunmen struck around 2:00 am.

According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers stormed the lodge armed with guns, ransacked several rooms, dispossessed lodgers of their phones, and whisked away the officer.

“The kidnappers came around 2 am to 2.30 am. They searched every room, took the phones of lodgers, and forced the officer outside. They even fired a shot before speeding off with him. After they left, blood was seen on the ground,” a source who pleaded anonymity said.

It was further gathered that the kidnappers abandoned the vehicle used for the operation at Tuomo community along the Tuomo-Ogbobagbene-Tamigbe-Torugbene-Ojobo road. The vehicle has since been recovered by the JTF and moved to their Bomadi-Overside base.

Meanwhile, residents of Bomadi and adjoining communities are living in fear of a possible military clampdown following the abduction.
