Nigerian Navy, Renaissance Energy Forge Alliance to Protect Oil, Gas Assets in N-Delta

By Peter Onyekachukwu

The Nigerian Navy and Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited have agreed to deepen collaboration to protect vital oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta, in a bid to boost Nigeria’s production and exports.

A delegation from Renaissance visited the Naval Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, where discussions centered on tackling security threats such as oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal bunkering that continue to undermine the nation’s energy output.

The Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Dewu, received the delegation led by Dr. Igo Weli, General Manager, Relations and Sustainable Development, and Mesh Maichibi, Chief Production Officer of Renaissance.

Rear Admiral Dewu assured the company of the Navy’s continued commitment to securing maritime corridors and waterways where crude oil and gas assets are located, stressing that safeguarding these resources remains a national priority.

Renaissance, which operates Nigeria’s largest oil and gas joint venture alongside NNPC, TotalEnergies, and AENR, said its renewed engagement with the Navy is part of its strategy to create a safe operating environment for increased investment and output.

The company emphasized that protecting oil and gas infrastructure is not only crucial for corporate operations but also vital to Nigeria’s broader economic stability, especially at a time when the federal government is seeking to meet OPEC production targets and boost foreign exchange inflows.

Industry stakeholders say the partnership underscores the importance of aligning private operators with security agencies to secure critical assets in the Niger Delta, where criminal activities have cost Nigeria billions in revenue over the years.
