The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has voiced concern over the increasing trend of early political campaigns, which it says is a clear violation of existing laws.
Speaking in Abuja at a roundtable on “The Challenges of Premature Political Campaigns,” Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Board of The Electoral Institute (TEI), highlighted that these campaigns are often disguised as acts of “appreciation” or “philanthropy.” He noted that they are being conducted through various channels, including billboards, social media, and physical gatherings.
