Historic Moment as Zazzau Emir Creates, Turbans First ‘Maga Isa’

By Peter Onyekachukwu, Zaria

The Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has written history in the emirate with the turbaning of Mallam Bashir Ibrahim-Dabo as the first Maga Isan Zazzau.

The event, held at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria, was attended by top government officials from both state and federal levels, underscoring the significance of the new title in the emirate’s traditional hierarchy.

Dabo, a royal prince from the Bare Bari ruling clan of the Fulani dynasty, currently serves as Head of Central Results Delivery and Coordination in the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hajiya Hadiza Bala Usman.

With a strong academic background, the new Maga Isa is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Harvard Kennedy School, London Business School, and Aga Khan University, Nairobi. He has also served as Special Assistant to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and worked at the Nigerian Ports Authority.

In his remarks, Emir Bamalli said the title was conferred in recognition of Dabo’s selfless commitment and service to the community. He tasked him to continue to uphold the values of royalty by being an ambassador of integrity, honesty, and truth.

Congratulating him on being the first to bear the title, the Emir also urged him to leverage his wealth of experience and influence to strengthen the cultural and traditional heritage of the Zazzau people.
