Warri, Delta State — Tension flared on Tuesday in Warri South Local Government Area when some Ijaw youths launched an attack on peaceful residents of Ukurede Itsekiri community in Warri South Local government area following the removal of coronation anniversary billboards belonging to the King of Ogbe-Ijoh by Law enforcement.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, armed with stones and cutlasses, stormed the Ukurede Itsekiri community unprovoked. They were, however, swiftly repelled by Itsekiri youths who resisted the assault and restored calm in the area.
The controversial billboards, which were erected in parts of Warri South, had earlier been dismantled by law enforcement agents in compliance with a Supreme Court ruling.
Community sources confirmed that no lives were lost, though the incident briefly disrupted activities in the neighborhood and heightened ethnic tensions in the area. Security operatives have since intensified patrols to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
